REsearched ARgument Essay

This was my final project for my English Composition II class. The prompt was to write an essay on an argumentative topic related to a possible future major. I chose Creative Writing, due to my passion for stories. I always had wanted to write a book, but the crisis of "not being good enough" and "getting it right the first time" was always prevalent when I tried to make my hands move. I had always been curious: what truly made a good story? Was it some sort of magic the authors had and didn't expose? I decided to delve further into this topic: the three "vital" parts of a story: plot, world, and characters, and see what I could glean from my analysis. What I found, through careful consideration of data collected from movie critics and audiences, was that yes, a good story can have a solid plot, world, and characters, but it didn't necessarily need to. The surprise hit 2023 Pixar Movie Elemental proved that. Now, what's the conclusion? That's for you to decide.

SYnthesis Essay

In preparation for my Researched Argument Essay, I delved into story structures. I compare the insights of three authors: Gustav Freytag, Joseph Campbell, and Jane Alison, and their respective structures. Which one will come out on top in the comparison of Freytag's Pyramid, Campbell's Hero's Journey, and Alison's Meander, Spiral and Explode? That's for you to find out.
